Bad Samaritan

Two petty thieves working as valet attendants, Sean (Robert Sheehan) and Derek (Carlito Olivero), make a little extra cash on the side by robbing rich people’s homes in Portland, Oregon. When Sean breaks into the home of Cale Erendreich (David Tennant, TV’s Doctor Who), he finds more than minor riches – he finds a woman tied up to a chair, and a room filled with an array of torture-inducing tools. Panicked, Sean leaves the woman behind and calls the cops, who search the house and find nothing. Now Sean must try to save the woman on his own, while a wrathful Cale is determined to take his revenge in this compelling and provocative thriller.

Compared to many movies that are released these days, this one was surprisingly good, better than I expected. All of the characters were pretty well developed and great in their roles, so a lot of background on them really wasn’t needed. I do have to say, David Tennant fucking nailed this movie, and I’m serious when I say that. Although the other characters were good, he excelled in his role. The raging and pissed off faces he made in this film, along with his ace performance made up for anything the story lacked. He is chilling, sadistic and just creepy as fuck.

This one completely held my attention the entire run and even had a few spurts of unexpected scenes that made me jump, and there are a satisfying number of them. However, I did discover that there were also a few plot holes within the scripting itself, and some of the scenes seemed a little far-fetched and foolish at times, but even at that, I particularly liked how they didn’t rely on an excessive amount of gore, violence or sex, and were still able to retain the suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Bad Samaritan is basically about two friend that seemed to be struggling with life issues and come up with the idea to use the restaurant where they work the valet parking as a cover to start their criminal get-rich scheme. They use the security devices found in luxury vehicles of the wealthy customers that patron the business as their means to gain entrance to their homes. Their plan is to have one of them burglarize the customer’s residence while the other one remains on watch outside the high-class restaurant while the victim dines inside.

(2018) Bad Samaritan Movie Still

As their luck would have it, during a certain robbery attempt, one of them learns that the owner of the house is some sort of a serial killing psycho who is holding a young woman hostage in one of the rooms of his house. The room is supposed to be his office but looks more like a torture chamber with black plastic covering every wall from ceiling to floor, and the woman tied to a chair with chains and looks as if she’s been badly beaten. It’s as if she’s awaiting execution. The movie goes on to show the would-be robber trying to rescue the killer’s hostage without incriminating himself or his friend to the police. But after the killer learns of the burglar’s true identity, he hacks into his computer to attack his family and destroy his credibility. This begins the game of cat and mouse. The boy tries desperately to protect his and his families lives, with both parties trying to gain the upper hand.

(2018) Bad Samaritan Movie Still

Bad Samaritan is a really tense, white-knuckle thriller with great acting all around and really good character development. This is important in this type of film because it makes you root for the good guy. There isn’t any gore to speak of but there are some very violent and disturbing scenes. The MPAA has assigned “Bad Samaritan” an R rating, for adult situations and language, brief nudity, and scenes of extreme brutality. I highly recommend this to the lovers of this genre.
