Incident in a Ghost Land

Following her aunt’s death, Colleen and her daughters inherit her house. However, during their first night in their new home, murderers enter the home, putting Colleen in a situation where she must fight to save her daughters’ lives. When the girls suffer a terrible trauma during the night, their disparate personalities diverge even further. The younger daughter, Beth, is said to become a famous horror author with a perfect family and life in Los Angeles, while her sister, Vera, can’t cope, and loses her mind faced to an unshakable sense of paranoia. Sixteen years later the daughters and mother reunite at the house where Colleen and Vera continue to reside, it is then that extremely strange and bizarre events begin to take place.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that, and I think it’s safe to say if you liked Martyrs, you’re probably going to like this. If not, you’re probably going to hate it. I think it’s also safe to say that there’s not much middle ground, meaning you won’t be riding the fence on it. You’re either going to love it or hate it, it’s that simple. This one single movie has sparked an incredible amount of split reviews and opinions from horror fans all around the globe. So, what side of the fence am I on? Hey, you know me, I love all horror so I loved it, I thought it was great. Not the best movie ever, but still a damn good film. It’s well made, the characters are spot on and believable, the scenes are fantastic while being utterly brutal and very traumatic indeed.

We start out with Pauline, played by French actress, Mylene Farmer, a single mother of two who is moving her and her two daughters to their new home. It’s a beautiful, gothic-looking home that was an inheritance from a recently deceased Aunt. Everything seems perfect, things couldn’t get any better, or so it seems. The youngest daughter Beth is okay with everything while thinking it’s the perfect place to begin her writing…she wants to become a horror writer. However, Vera, the oldest daughter is extremely pissed off because she had to leave her boyfriend and all of her friends behind.

Very soon after arriving at their new place we’re lead to believe that there’s been a rash of horrendous break-ins around the little town which focused entirely on single mothers and their daughters. While mom and the girls are unloading boxes from the moving truck, we suddenly see two diabolical figures arrive that doesn’t look like they’re interested in helping anyone move in. Things start looking pretty grim by this time.

(2018) Incident in a Ghost Land Movie Still

Next, we see everything seems to fast forward by several years, leaving us to realize that Beth has survived and is now an established horror writer who looks to be living with a husband and a young son. Lately, Beth seems to be having very lucid nightmares about the torture she and her family endured at the hands of the two mysterious intruders. No doubt she would be convinced that her nightmares were from the trauma she experienced if it were not for two things. One, she wakes up with her lips swollen or unexplained cuts all over her body. And two, she learns that her mother and sister are experiencing the same horrifying dreams. Knowing that something is just not right, she packs up and heads back to the place that used to be her family’s home in order to get to the bottom of everything.

Only she does not return home to find any relief…for any of them. Once all three women are finally back together again inside the house, things begin to go horribly wrong and very much out of control. It seems as if the three reuniting back together under the dark roof of this house has unleashed the evil things that were being kept at bay all those years before. Now they are forced to relive that night all over again, only this time we get to see every horrifying detail as each of them are about to be brutalized in the most disturbing of ways. Definitely a must-see movie!
